Walter S. Quaider, age 94, of Fremont, OH died in the presence of family after a full life. He was born on November 23, 1926 in Cleveland, OH, the son of Walter J. and Alice (Belskis) Quaider. He was a 1945 graduate of East Tech High School. Walter was married on November 6, 1948 to Mary Hughes, the love of his life, for 72 years and she preceded him in death on January 10, 2021. They met while in junior high school and would roller skate together at the local rink. Watching them waltz on skates throughout their lives was a memorable experience. They lived in Cleveland and for 55 years in Willowick, OH, before moving to Fremont.
Walter retired from the Ohio Bell Telephone Co., served in the US Air Force as a mechanic during WW II, and enjoyed summer employment working as a member of the grounds crew for the Cleveland Indians while in high school.
Walter enjoyed singing. He was a member of the St. Mary Magdalene Nen’s Choir and the Ohio Bell Choir. Camping (from tent to airstream trailer,) fishing, golfing, playing pinochle and fixing things gave him great pleasure as well.
He is survived by his children, Kathleen (Don) Nalley, Daniel (Deb) Quaider, Janis (Russ) Gallagher, grandchildren, Margaret (Ashley) Goodin, Paul (Megan) Nalley, Jacob Quaider, Dylan Quaider, Justin Quaider, Ryanne (Brian) Lachman, Kyle Gallagher, Ethan Gallagher, Keagan Gallagher, and great-grandchildren, Hudson Goodin, Hayes Goodin, Avery Lachman and Reese Nalley.
Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Hughes) Quaider, his mother and step-father, Alice and John Burch, sister, Jeanne Davis, son, Walter J. Quaider and grandson, Jason Quaider. A private service will be held for the family. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials can be made to the Fremont Senior Center and Meals on Wheels program.

He sure enjoyed pinochle at the senior center—I enjoyed his cookies that he made—he was as sharp as a tack—rest in peace, Walter…

Walter was a good neighbor who welcomed our granddaughter and our doggies – allowing them to invade his privacy and entertain him as he sat in his driveway, looking over at our woods. His presence (as with Mary) will be missed.

To the Quaider family,
Please accept my deepest condolences. I have many fond memories of growing up next door to the Quaider family in Willowick and could not have asked for better neighbors. I loved camping with your family in Canada and having your dad take us out on the boat to fish and water ski. Back home, he was always there to lend a helping hand if needed. You can’t pick your neighbors but we couldn’t have asked for any better. Your Dad and Mom are greatly missed…

We are thinking of you and sending our prayers your way. Your Dad lived a full life and now he is home.

Please accept our condolences in the loss of your father, grandfather and great-grandfather. My Mom was Alice (Belskis) Girosky, one of Wally’s cousins, and daughter of Tony and May Bielskis. She passed away July, 2020 at the age of 96. Wally was one of her favorite cousins and his love and devotion to your Mom was very evident and admired. You will be remembered in our prayers.
