Virginia R. Sorg
Virginia R. Sorg, 90, of Fremont, OH passed away peacefully on Monday, October 14, 2013 at Memorial Hospital. She was born on August 6, 1923 in Fremont to Clarence A. and Ruth (Howard) Peterson. She was a 1941 graduate of Fremont Ross High School and attended Nurses Training at Flower Hospital in Toledo, OH for two years.
Virginia married Russell Galen Sorg on March 19, 1944 at First Presbyterian Church in Anniston, AL where he was serving in the Infantry. Her attendants were sister, Carol Peterson Smith and sister-in-law, Marian Sorg Flickinger.
Virginia was a Homemaker. She attended the First Presbyterian Church in Fremont all her life. She was active, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, and along with Marjorie Restle Stull, was active putting on mother and daughter and father and son yearly banquets. She served as President of the Mothers Study Club for several years at Atkinson Elementary School. She started the TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) diet club years ago in Fremont. She was very happily married and enjoyed many ocean cruises that she took with Russ.
The family she loved are her husband, Russell G. Sorg, Fremont, OH; son, Jan G. (Karen) Sorg, Fremont, OH; daughters, Carol Jo (Art) Whitmire, Byron, IL, and Stephanie Lynn (David) Stull, Fremont, OH; sister, Joan (Amos) Druckenmiller, Fremont, OH; grandchildren, Lisa (Ted) LeJeune, Mark (Mary) Sorg, Nathan Sorg, Owen (Rachel) Sorg, John (Chani) Whitmire, Sherri (Mark) Janulis, Nicole Whetstone, Phebe (Gerry) Montalto, Jarred and Jenna Stull; nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Carol Peterson Smith; son-in-law, Art Whitmire.
Visitation: Thursday from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St, Fremont, OH.
Service: Friday, October 18, 2013, at Noon at the funeral home with Pastor William McConnell officiating.
Burial: Oakwood Cemetery.
