
Verlie Slater, 87, of Fremont, OH passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2016, surrounded by her family, at Bethesda Care Center. She was born January 11, 1929 in Robinson Creek, KY, the daughter of Finny and Nora (Johnson) McCoy and great granddaughter of Randall McCoy.
Verlie married Robert Slater on April 22, 1949 and he preceded in death on January 15, 1983. She was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking and flowers.
Verlie is survived by her children, Barbara (Jimmy Herren) Slater and Samuel (Becky) Slater, both of Fremont, OH; siblings, Myrtle Taylor, La Planta, MD, and Dorothy Mays, St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Robert, James and Sarah; great grandchildren, Joshua, Blake and Jayden.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Slater; siblings, Gladys Rothschild, Mayme Throop, James McCoy, Opal Sargent, Betty Dunbar and Robert E. McCoy; niece, Jennifer Mays-Hayes.
Visitation: Thursday, October 20, 2016 from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St. Fremont, OH.
Burial: Green Ridge Memorial Park, Connellsville, PA
