Tom “Toad” Leroy Hill
Tom “Toad” Leroy Hill, 66, of Lindsey, OH passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, April 3, 2013. He was born on June 2, 1946 in Fremont, OH, the son of Charles and Betty (Clark) Hill. He was a 1964 graduate of Fremont Ross High School.
Tom served in the US Army from 1965 to 1972, spending two tours of duty as a First Lieutenant in the Vietnam War. He was stationed with the 6th Battalion 9th Infantry 1st Infantry Division-Big Red 1, Division Headquarters-Company Commander, Lai Khe- Vietnam. Tom was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal (RVN Award), the Bronze Star, Marksman (M-14) Rifle Badge and Good Conduct Medal.
Tom married Patricia Whitney on June 16, 1978 and she survives. He worked as a Quality Engineer for area industrial companies such as Standard Products in Pt. Clinton, OH. Tom was a member of the Fremont VFW, Disabled American Veterans, Lindsey Lions, Lindsey Village Council and former member of the Fremont Community Theatre and Boy Scouts of America.
Tom is survived by his wife, Patricia Hill, Lindsey, OH; children, Illya Bowersox and Ian Slaymaker; grandchildren, Madeleine and Gabriel; sister, Rosalyn (Richard) Reno as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Hill.
A Service of Remembrance for Tom Hill will be held Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 3:00 pm in the Village of Lindsey Cemetery. This will be a Military Honors Ceremony. During the observance, time will be set aside for reflections and comments people wish to make.
A celebration of Tom’s life will follow at R & B Barn, 4715 Township Rd 79, Gibsonburg, OH. A simple dinner is planned for guests. Tom’s family and friends were special to him and this will be a casual day to bring everyone together sharing memories.
