Schaffer Thomas

Thomas A. Schaffer, 56, of Warren, OH passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 26, 2021. He was born on January 15, 1965 in Fremont, OH and the son of Maggie (Holt) Malan and stepfather, Joseph Malan. Tom was a 1983 graduate of Fremont Ross High School and went on to receive his Associates Degree at Terra State Community College majoring in Quality Control. Tom married Mary Wetzel on September 26, 1992 in Fremont, OH and she survives. He was currently working for Falls Filtration Technologies for the past five and a half years in quality control. Tom loved his dog and kitties and enjoyed watching nature, gaming, traveling, gardening and was active in the local theater. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Detroit Tigers, the University of Michigan and watching various other sports.

Tom is survived by his wife of twenty-eight years, Mary Schaffer, Warren, OH; daughters, Brittney (Brian) Dalrymple, Warren, OH and LaNeen Schaffer of Missouri; brother, Joe (Amber) Malan, Fremont, OH; grandchildren, Duncan Dalrymple and Bryson DePhillips; nephews, Connor Malan, Jake (Angelique) Wetzel, Pete (Leanne) Wetzel, Drew (Kariena) Wetzel and niece, Natalie Ramplin.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St, Fremont, OH 43420.

Due to COVID, services will be held private for the family.

Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery, Fremont, OH.

The use of face masks is required while indoors at all services. Social distancing will be observed throughout all services with wait times taking place outdoors. If you would prefer, you may express your condolences at www.whhfh.com or call the funeral home at 419-332-6409 to request that your name be signed in the guest book.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be made out to the family to help with burial expenses or if they wish, they can be sent to the American Cancer Society or Angel for Animals, 4750 S Range, Canfield, OH 44406.

I’m sorry for your loss. I’m a neighbor that didn’t know him but he always waved at me driving by.. I always heard him singing on his tractor with his headphones on…gonna miss that….

So sorry to learn of the passing of Tom! Many memories of him and the girls when he would bring them over to swim in our pool, and attending the same church! I pray for strength, comfort and direction for his family.
