
Steven “Bubby” L. Mezinger, 70, of Fremont, OH, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2016 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo. He was born May 20, 1945 in Fremont, OH to Stephen and Bonnie (Wetzel) Mezinger. Bubby was a 1964 graduate of Fremont Ross High School and then went on to serve in the United States Air Force.
Bubby married Mary Sue Hyde on August 21, 1987 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fremont, OH and she survives. He worked as a Conductor Yard Master for twenty-four years at Norfolk Western Railroad, retiring in 1988. Bubby was a member of the Fremont Eagles, Moose and the Sandusky Township Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church where he was the President on the school board for 2 years. He coached under Mel Mackey 7th-9th grade football teams and a youth baseball coach for ten years. Bubby was President of the Adult Christian Education at St. Casimir’s and was an avid fisherman as well as a hunter.
Bubby is survived by his wife of twenty-eight years, Mary Sue Mezinger; children, Michael (Pam) Mezinger, Tammy (Dan) Swinehart, both of Fremont, OH, Scott (Kari) Mezinger, Perrysburg, OH; siblings, Faye (Ken) Magg, Betsy Walter, both of Fremont, OH, Joe (Sandi) Mezinger, Lima, OH; grandchildren, Devon, Bailey, McKayla, Dylan, Austin and Kaine.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Danny Mezinger.
Visitation: Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St, Fremont, OH.
Service: Wednesday, April 6, 2016, 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Fr. Mike Zacharias officiating.
Burial: Oakwood Cemetery
Memorials can be made to the Sandusky Township Fire Department, Boys Town, St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Humane Society of Sandusky County.
