
Shirley A. Benton, 96, of Fremont, OH passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at The Willows of Bellevue. She was born on February 2, 1926 in Dayton, OH to Walter and Henrietta (Schaaf) Koenig. Shirley married Wilbur Benton on November 5, 1945 in Bellefontaine, OH. She worked at Big Lots as a cashier and customer service, where she retired at the age of eighty after twenty-three years of service. Shirley was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and enjoyed cooking and reading.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Daniel (Ann) Benton, Loveland, OH and Michael (Deborah) Benton, Fremont, OH; grandchildren, Tim and Greg Menningen, David and Eric Benton, Christine Parish, Nichole Upton, Sheri Simpson and Tami Benton; eighteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilbur Benton; daughter, Mary Menningen and sisters, Arlene Berry and Melva Peck.
Mass of Christian Burial: Monday, September 12, 2022; 11:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 550 Smith Rd., Fremont, OH. Visitation will take place one hour prior to mass at the church.
Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery
Memorials: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
