Santiago C. Gonzales, 87, Fremont, OH passed away at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, October 10, 2015. He was born on September 22, 1928 in Los Indios, TX, the son of Evaristo and Tomasa (Cantu) Gonzales.
Santiago married Amelia Zuniga on December 9, 1951 in Port Clinton, OH and she survives. He worked as a Machine Operator at the Kelsey Hayes/Fremont Foundry and retired after over thirty-eight years of service. Santiago was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and enjoyed hosting cook outs, gardening and fishing in his younger years. He loved listening to Mexican music.
Santiago is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Amelia Z. Gonzales, Fremont, OH; children, Ermalinda Moreno, Saul Gonzales and Arnold Gonzales, all of Fremont, OH; daughter-in-law, Elodia Gonzales, Fremont, OH; grandchildren, Ismael and Melissa Gonzales, Sylvia Harris, Lydia Messer, Janel Moreno and Joel Moreno, Jr., Desmond Gonzales and Amber Tusing; siblings, Lupe Barrera, Evaristo Gonzales, Elodia Delgado, Luis Gonzales and Amelia Keaton; twenty-one great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by is parents; son, Santiago Gonzales, Jr.; son-in-law, Joel Moreno, Sr.; grandson, Ricky Lopez, Sr.; siblings, Thomas Gonzales, Lucia Castillo, Eloisa Garcia, Alejandro Gonzales and Herminia Garcia.
Visitation: Thursday from 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm with a Vigil at 7:30 pm at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St., Fremont, OH.
Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, October 16, 2015, 11:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 550 Smith Rd, Fremont, OH. Fr. John Blaser will officiate.
Burial: St. Ann Cemetery
Memorials: Sacred Heart Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society.
