Richard L. Tallman “Dick”

Richard “Dick” L. Tallman, 89, of Fremont, OH passed away on Friday, November 09, 2018 at Elmwood Assisted Living of Fremont. He was born July 4, 1929 in Fremont to Charles and Rozella (Detman) Tallman.

Dick served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a cutter at S.E. Hyman Co. for thirty-five years and retired in 1984. He was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church; a member of the American Legion where he proudly served on the military burial detail for thirty years. Dick was also a social member of the VFW and a member of the Ohio Veterans of Toledo.

Dick was an avid military enthusiast. He loved everything military and had a lot of military memorabilia that he donated to the Gibsonburg Veterans Museum. He was very proud to have found the grave site of George Washington’s bodyguard in the Hessville Cemetery. Dick was very active in the planning of the Civil War Reenactments and ceremonies at the tomb at Hayes Memorial. He loved bowling and worked at Rainbow Lanes for many years. Dick loved to do landscaping and used to do some of the landscaping at the American Legion Post.

Dick is survived by his children, Rick A. Tallman, Lusby, MD, Ryan (Beth) Tallman, Toledo, OH, Cyndi (Phil) Smith, Gibsonburg, OH and Tami (Scott) Stoudinger, Bradner, OH; ten grandchildren, Sheena (Ryan) Baird of Indiana, Eric Tallman of Virginia, Travis (Kelly) Stoudinger, Pemberville, OH, Tim Smith of Pennsylvania, Amber (Rodney) Turner, Gibsonburg, OH, Steve (Katie) Smith, Columbus, Oh, Jacob (Katy) Stoudinger, Wayne, OH, Chase Tallman and Peyton Tallman both of Toledo, OH; eighteen great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; many siblings; companion of ten years, Ella Jean Buhrows; grandson, Dustin Stoudinger and step father, Frank Arndt.

Visitation: Sunday from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St, Fremont, OH.

Service: Monday, November 12, 2018, 10:30 am at the funeral home with Pastor Jody Rice officiating.

Burial: McGormley Cemetery, Fremont, with Military Honors provided by the American Legion and VFW.

Memorials: Heartland Hospice or Alzheimer’s Research.

Cindy and family, Jim and I just want to extend our sincerest sympathy in the loss of your father, Richard. I was honored to have cared for him while he was at Elmwood. We always got along fine and I respected him for his years of service. He was a good man.

So sorry to hear of his passing. We worked
together at S.E. Hyman Co. for years. Ya just
never knew what he and the other cutter’s
would come up with. Always a smile & laugh from
him.
