The days of our lives are seventy years; and if by reason of strength hey are eighty years, yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. Psalm 90:10 Reverend Dan Barnett departed this life on March 15, 2021 at his home on Buckland Ave., Fremont, OH surrounded by his family. He was born on November 16, 1939 to the late Luther L. Barnett Sr. and Lilly (McGowen) Barnett in Desoto, MS. Dan left and moved to Picayune, MS where he worked driving log trucks. He married his now ex-wife Emma L (Magee) Barnet and started a family.
Dan moved his family from Mississippi to Fremont, OH in 1967. He worked at the Fremont Foundry for two years and then became an independent truck driver that led his ambitions to start his own successful trucking company, BRT Transport LLC for over forty years. Dan gave his life to Christ and became an ordained minster in 1977. He was also a founder and member of a gospel group “The Gospel Blazers.” He later married and divorced Billie (Parks) Barnett.
Dan had such a big heart and loved helping others. Each year he hosted his annual Fourth of July BBQ for the community. He also moved quickly when Katrina hit in New Orleans and other parts of the south by using his trucks to deliver much needed supplies. Over the years he has received numerous certificates including Black Owned Business of the Year from Washington, DC and the Community Award from NAACP.
Dan was a loving father, grandfather, minister, friend and mentor and will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his father, Luther L. Barnett; mother, Lilly Barnett; ex-wife, Billie Barnett; brothers, Jimmie Barnett, Mark Wallis and Leroy Barnett; sisters, Flora Rhone, Etta May Shanks and Ruth (Charles) Lee and granddaughter, Coya Mason.
Dan will be cherished and missed by his brother, Luther Barnett Jr, Quitman, MS; sisters, Delphine Hawthron, Picayune, MS, Lou Ella (Isiah) Sullivan, Tuscaloosa, AL and Eva May Lee, Quitman, MS; children, Danny, Charmaine, Jamie, Terry and Ralph Barnett all of Fremont, Lisa Barnett, Slidell, LA, Jennifer Cousan, Joliet, IL and Lyda (Walter) Scott, Indianapolis, IN; twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Thursday, March 25, 2021 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E State St., Fremont, OH.
Graveside service will take place on Friday, March 26, 2021; 11:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde, OH.

To my cousins of the Barnett Family.
It is hard to imagine that Uncle Dan is gone from this earth. He was a giver and always shot straight from the hip about life. He will be truly missed in more ways than one. He and my mother were very close and it is hard for her at this time to know that her big brother is no longer here.
He will take his truck of life and drive up the heaven shore to sing and preach in the heavenly choir. I love you Uncle Dan and always will! Keep on trucking! The gates are open for you.
Sincerely,
Rev. Patrick Sullivan

To my Barnett family. Saddened to learn of Uncle Dan’s passing. Somehow we always think that we have more time to talk to someone; I am guilty of that. I somehow felt that I would “catch him on the next trip.”
He will forever be missed and loved.
