Ramona “Mona” Jean Romo, 67, of Fremont, OH passed away on October 1, 2021 at her home. She was born on April 24, 1954, in Sandusky, OH. Mona was the daughter of Sixto and Georgia (Scoles) Guardiola. She was a 1973 graduate of Fremont Ross High School. Mona enjoyed cooking, reading, doing puzzles, and watching Westerns. She could often be seen zipping around town in her little red truck.
Mona was treasured by many. She was giving, kind, and she had a contagious laugh. Some might have considered Mona’s heart to be her weakness because she was born with a heart condition, but everyone who knew her understood that her heart was her greatest strength.
Mona loved her family and friends with fierce dedication, and she knew no stranger as she constantly made new friends wherever she went. Even though she experienced hardships in her life, Mona was the embodiment of joy, resilience, hope, and strength. Mona volunteered at Heartland Hospice. She was also an Advisory Board Member for Justice for Migrant Women.
Many people in her family and in the community benefitted from her generosity of spirit. If someone needed a ride, food, a caretaker for a family member, or a volunteer for a community event, Mona stepped in without hesitation and expected nothing in her turn for her time, energy, or assistance.
Above all, Mona’s love for her family was limitless. She was deeply proud and protective of her children, grandchildren, and of all her family members. In so many ways, she was the life of the party, while she also kept family members informed if someone was experiencing a hard time or needed support. Mona was a beautiful soul whose memory will live on in all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Mona is survived by her children, Raphael Romo, Fremont, Angela Romo, Atlanta, GA, Manuel Romo and Adan Romo both of Fremont; grandchildren, Anaiyah, Elektra, Chloe, Gabriel, and Jayden Romo; siblings, Patricia Guardiola and Margaret (Jose) Ramirez, both of Fremont, Sixto Guardiola Jr., Lorain, OH and Patricia Garcia, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Karen Guardiola and sister, Charlene Guardiola.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, from 2:00-4:00pm and 5:00-7:00pm at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E State St., Fremont, OH. Masks will be provided and required.
A graveside service will take place on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Cemetery, Fremont, OH.
A celebration of Mona’s life and a luncheon will be held at the Fremont Fraternal Order of the Eagles directly following the graveside services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Liberty Center of Sandusky County.
