Walter E. Lance, 95, of Fremont, OH passed away on Monday, July 20, 2026. He was born on June 26, 1931 in Fremont, OH to Raymond and Cecilia (Bauer) Lance. Walter served in the US Army as First Air Bourne Medic from 1952 to 1954 where was honorably discharged and awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
Walter married Janet Dodway, May 7, 1955 in Fremont, OH and she preceded him in death on May 28, 2017. He worked for Carbo Tool and Die for many years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Fremont Eagles Post 712, the American Legion and a Life Member at the VFW.
Walter is survived by his sons, Jeffrey and Robert (Maria) Lance all of Fremont, OH; three grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janet Lance; son, Timothy Lance, siblings, Henry Lance, Floyd Lance, James Lance, Rosalyn Michael and Vivian Ulrich.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, July 23, 2026 from 4 to 8 pm at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St. Fremont, OH.
Service will be held on Friday, July 24,2026, 11:00 am at the Funeral Home.
Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society.
