Virginia Anne Wright

Mrs. Virginia Anne Wright (Ginny), 98 years old, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2023 in the Valley View Health Campus in Fremont where she had been a resident since late May, 2023.   She was the loving wife of the late Allison Charles Wright (Al) for nearly 50 years.  Virginia Anne Wright was born Sept 19, 1924, to Albert and Rosalia Middendorf in Lorain, Ohio.  She was predeceased by her brother, Allen T. Middendorf, who served proudly in World War II.  She married the love of her life, despite her father’s uneasiness with their age difference, in Lorain and worked in Middendorf’s Hardware store and Pharmacy on State Street.  In 1953 the Wrights moved into their home on Valley View Terrace in Fremont, Ohio.

Ginny was a busy Mom to their son, Dennis, born June 28, 1946. After college, Dennis traveled to New York City for a job in finance and he married Astrid Joan Blomquist, of Rockville Centre, NY.  Dennis’ sudden demise in 2006 was very difficult for Ginny. She was helped by her many friends, especially Carol Ehert.

Besides being a devoted, selfless mother and wife she enjoyed working as a receptionist for a local optometrist, Dr. Robert Stierwalt, for 38 years. Through her job, Kay and Howard Stierwalt and their family became an integral part of Ginny’s life.

Ginny was a good person who outlived most of her friends as she approached her 99th year.  Her devotion to her family, home, and friends was reflected in her kindness which knew no bounds.  She was overjoyed when her friends brought her a Jack Russell terrier puppy to help her cope with her son’s sudden death.   That playful happy puppy, Ginger, made her day.  When Ginger passed Ginny found joy with a kitten, Molly.

Ginny cared for people: she remembered each one of them and saved their correspondence.  She was an elegant hostess and a good conversationalist. She took care of herself, was always fashionably dressed and was proud to look younger than her age.  She regularly supported many charitable organizations and was especially generous to animal programs and the church.  Her belief in our Lord, Jesus Christ, guided every minute of her days.  For those of us who were blessed to know Ginny, especially her son’s former sisters-in-law and brother-in-law who considered her family. She will be sorely missed.

Ginny is survived by her one granddaughter, Allison Nicole Wright, of Huntington, NY, and great-grandson, Christopher Michael Wright, also of Huntington, NY.  Also, a cousin, Betty J. Grilliot, a nephew, John Wright, and 2 nieces, Ann Abdo and Andrea Wright.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Ginny’s favorite charities- the Humane Society of Sandusky County and St. Joseph’s Church in Fremont, OH.

Visitation will take place on Friday, August 18, 2023 from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home, 425 E State St., Fremont, OH.
