Virgil Wiechman

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Virgil Wiechman, on April 10, 2026, at the age of 92 of an apparent heart attack. He was born on January 10, 1934, in Port Clinton, OH to Theodore and Luetta (Ohm) Wiechman. Virgil was a 1952 graduate of Port Clinton High School. He was a hydraulic machinist working at the Erie Army Depot and then retired from Epco Co. He married Yvonne Rumery on February 7, 1953 at Kingway Trinity Lutheran Church and she preceded him in death on July 11, 2011. Together they bought the property that they lived on for over 45 years. It was in his barn where he loved to be and where he was found. After our mother, the love of his life was his purple Martins. He has over fifty gourds up which us kids will take care of till we can’t anymore. The Sandusky County Park District bought the property and told dad they would appreciate it if we would take care of them. Dad loved sitting on his bench and watching and listening to his Martins.

Dad is survived by his sons, Terry (Pam) Wiechman, Randy (Laura) Wiechman, Mark (Brenda) Wiechman; daughter Pam Parker; many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; his best friend Jerry Rahm.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Yvonne; brother, Eldon Wiechman; sisters Edna Mae McClure and Eurdine Boysen; son Jerry Wiechman; son in law Jim Parker.

Visitation will take place on Friday, April 17, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St. Fremont, OH 43420.

Services will follow at 4:00 pm the funeral home.
