Raymond A. Ackerman

Raymond A. Ackerman, 91, of Port Clinton, OH passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2026 at his home in Mayleville. Ray was born on July 13, 1935 to Raymond and Dolores (Zienta) Ackerman in Fremont, OH. He was a 1953 graduate of St. Joseph Catholic High School and attended some college at Tiffin University. Ray served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957 in Fort Campbell, KY. He served an additional four years of reserve duty.

Ray married Ruth A. Mayle on November 5, 1960 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fremont and she preceded him in death on April 14, 2006. He was a Safety Officer along with several other positions at Mosser Construction for fifty years, retiring in 2018. Ray was a member of St Joseph and Immaculate Conception Catholic Churches. He enjoyed his time at Mayleville and fishing. Ray loved telling stories while drinking beer outside, his stories got bigger and better every time. He had a strong work ethic, that he shared with his wife Ruth and passed along to their children.

Ray is survived by his children, Robert (Rebecca Graham) Ackerman, Susan (Thomas) Yellstrom, Kenneth (Barbara Raney) Ackerman; brother, Thomas Ackerman; sister-in-law, Mary Jo Ackerman all of Fremont; grandchildren, Quinn (Katie), Max (Dominic) and Andrew (Vickie) Yellstrom, Emily (Isaiah) Guzman, Samantha (Zach) Anderson, Matthew Ackerman and Kyle (Bryan) Shrigley; great grandchildren, Noah, Liam, Myla and Haven Guzman; dear friends Matt and Rachelle Paeth.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ruth Ackerman; brother, James Ackerman.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, October 24, 2026 from 9-10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 709 Croghan St., Fremont, OH.

Mass of Christian Burial will follow visitation at 10 a.m. at the church.

Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, Fremont, OH.

Memorials can be made in Ray’s honor to Heartland Hospice, Immaculate Conception Church or SJCC Booster Club.
