Matias "Chuy" Silvas Jr.

Matias "Chuy" Silvas Jr., 56, of Fremont, OH, previously of Fresno, CA passed away unexpectedly on December 31, 2025. Chuy was born on April 8, 1969, in California to Matias Silvas Sr. and Sofia Hernandez. He was a graduate of Theodore Roosevelt High School in Fresno. Chuy married Melinda Moreno on July 8, 1995 at St. Joseph Catholic Church and she survives.

Chuy proudly served in the United States Navy from June 26, 1987 to June 25, 1992 serving in Operation Desert Storm. He earned the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with a bronze star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Aisa Service Medal with bronze star, and the First Good Conduct for period ending June 25, 1991.

Chuy was a proud Electrician by trade and currently served with the IBEW Local 8. He also received his Medical Coding Certificate at Terra State College. He enjoyed working out, listening to music, dancing, and his dogs, Lucky and Chico. He was a Las Vegas Raiders fan. Chuy loved spending time with his family, especially his son Cristian, who is currently serving in the United States Air Force.

Chuy is survived by his wife of thirty years, Melinda Silvas, son Cristian Silvas, both of Fremont, OH; brothers, Jose (Rebecca) Silvas, David (Deeann Holguin), both of Fresno, CA; nieces and nephews, Athena, Archelaus and Marissa.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, January 8, 2026 from 2-7 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St. Fremont, OH 43420.

Services will follow visitation at 7 p.m. at the funeral home, with military honors provided by the VFW and American Legion.
