Marvin Hines

November 9, 1940 — July 26, 2025

Fremont

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marvin Hines, a devoted husband, loving father, and pillar of strength, who peacefully left us on July 26, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on November 9, 1940, in Fremont, Ohio, Marvin lived a life defined by unwavering dedication to those he loved most. He could not say enough about the parents who raised him, Henry Hines and Edna Sewell, who helped mold him into the man he grew to be.

Marvin was a man of remarkable character, strong in spirit, loving in heart. His greatest pride and most significant accomplishments were his roles as a devoted husband to the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Dolores and loving father to his kids and grandchildren. He understood that family came first, always, and this principle guided every decision he made throughout his extraordinary life.

Those who knew Marvin witnessed his incredible strength, not just in times of challenge, but in the quiet, consistent ways he showed up for his family day after day. His love was steadfast and his dedication unwavering, creating a foundation of security and warmth that will continue to sustain his family for generations to come.

Marvin was proud to serve in the US Navy as a Navy Corpsman FMF (Fleet Marine Force) as a Navy Laboratory Technician, serving on the USS Guam. His Marine colleagues respectfully called him “Doc.” His training led him to a career back home as a Laboratory Technician at both Fremont Memorial and Port Clinton Hospitals. He later obtained an Associate Degree in Industrial Management from Terra Technical College and held managerial positions at both Eckrich in Fremont and Chef’s Pantry in Sandusky.

Marvin loved dancing with his Wife Dolores, who we are sure he is dancing with now, had a fond love for the music by Earth, Wind and Fire, loved war movies, football and his loyal companion, his dog Bri.

Marvin is survived by his siblings: Alan (Cathy) Sewell, Windy (Charles) Phillips, Henry Diane Martin, Patsy Carter, Josephine Carter-Fant, Trish Carter, Wili Carter, Dorothy Carter and Derrick (Anita) Hines. Children: Denise (Nelson) Santos, Blaine (Carmen) Hines, Kimberly (Larry) Spann, Jacqueline (Jamie) Barnett, and Christian (Angie) Hines, Grandchildren: Stacy (Lee) Root, Brandon Hines, Justin (Brittany) Hines, Elias Jaiz (EJ) Hines, Jeffrey Barnett, Alexis Barnett, Samantha Hines, Darien (Lizzy) Spann, Taylor Spann, Jocelyn Hines, Cyrus Hines and ten great grandchildren, each of whom carries forward his legacy of love and dedication.

Marvin was preceded in death by his Father Henry Hines, Mother Edna Sewell and his Wife Dolores Hines.
