Marc A. Roosen

Marc A. Roosen, 75, of Fremont, OH passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at Ottawa Riverview Health Care.  He was born on May 18, 1948 in Sedalia, MO to Albert and Mattie (Keithly) Roosen.  Marc was a 1966 graduate of Fremont Ross High School and then went on to serve in the US Navy from 1966 to 1970 during the Vietnam War where he was awarded the National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.  

Marc married Elaine Decker on December 4, 1970 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Fremont, OH.  He was a Fire Fighter for the Fremont Fire Department for twenty-five years, retiring in 1997.  Marc in his spare time was a Pilot for Island Airlines in Port Clinton for twenty-five years.   He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, a lifetime member of the VFW, former member of IAFF Local # 328 and the Federal Aviation Administration.  Marc volunteered for the hospice organization and read to the students at Atkinson Elementary School.  He enjoyed scuba diving, traveling, riding his motorcycle, vintage cars and airplanes.

Marc is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Elaine Roosen; children, Aaron (Kari) Roosen, Angie (Chris) Smith, Jeremy Roosen, all of Fremont, OH; grandchildren, Riane, Chloe, Alex, Avery, Christopher, Robbie, David, Owen; great granddaughter, Gemma; siblings, Bob (Sherry) Roosen, Springfield, OH, Wanda Phares, Tiffin, OH, Howard Roosen, Cambridge, OH and brother-in-law, Cal Hoffman.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Linda Hoffman.

Visitation will take place on Thursday from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St, Fremont, OH 43420.

A service will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024; 11:00 am at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 212 N Clover St, Fremont, OH Fremont, OH with an hour of visitation prior to the service.

Burial will take place at McGormley Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the American Legion and VFW.
