Fremont

Mamie Dell Freeman Martin, age 85, of Fremont, Ohio, entered eternal rest on July 7, 2025. She was born on March 10, 1940, in Abbeville, Alabama, to the late Freddie and Ruby (Carter) Freeman.

Mamie was educated at Henry County Training School in her hometown of Abbeville. On December 27, 1959, she married the love of her life, Robert Taylor Martin. The couple soon relocated to Fremont, Ohio, where they built a life centered on family, faith, and community.

Mamie was employed for many years at Eaton Singer Controls and retired in 1991. She was a dedicated and faithful member of First Baptist Missionary Church, where she served in numerous capacities including as an usher and trustee. Her steadfast commitment to her church and its members was a reflection of her deep faith and servant’s heart. She was a devoted intercessory “prayer warrior.”

Mamie was known for her warmth, generosity, and especially her culinary gifts. She found great joy in cooking and baking for those she loved, and her delicious caramel cake was a favorite among family and friends. She also enjoyed walking for daily exercise and making sure to always carry her big stick while doing so.

Left to cherish her memory are her beloved children: Henry (Diane) Martin, Willie (Lisa) Martin, Marion (Richard) Martin Koonce, and Thomas (Angel) Martin; her brother; Henry Freeman, grandchildren: Clarinda Martin, Whitlee Alexander, Jermaine Alvarado, Terrill Martin, Isiah Johnson, Octavia McKinstry, Morgan Johnson, Naja Martin, KaVon Martin and Julius Martin; along with a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She is also survived by in-laws: Deborah Freeman, Mary Freeman, Janice Spann, Annie (Kenny) Price, James (Stevie) Martin, and Earnestine Martin; and her cherished lifelong friend, Bessie Minnifield, Emma Barnett, Betty Robinson and Lorna McKinstry.

Mamie was preceded in death by her son, Freddie Martin; her siblings: Everee Freeman McKay, Betty Freeman, Mary Dean Freeman Butler, Quincy Freeman, Willie “Billy” Freeman, Charles “Bubba” Freeman, George Freeman, Bobby Freeman, and Raymond Freeman; as well as in-laws: Barbara Freeman, Milton Butler, Marion Martin Spann, Charlie Martin, Willie Martin, and Jerome Martin.
