Lee Morris McKinstry, Sr, 75, was called home on Friday, May 29, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. Lee was born July 17, 1950, in Paulding, MS to the late Luther C. McKinstry, Sr, and Corine Stephens.
Morris, as he was affectionately known, worked at the Kelsey Hayes Fremont Foundry for over 30 years and was a member of the company's softball team. He also was an assistant coach for his sons’ baseball teams and was actively involved with his church, The Worship Center of Toledo under the Leadership of Bishop Pat McKinstry, where he was “Top Security” and became a Deacon in August 2016. Our beloved Lee loved sports and was an avid Ohio State fan, but what he cherished most was the title of Poppy, doting on his many grandbabies, great-grand babies, nieces, and nephews.
While driving around Fremont with his brother and sister-in-law, Morris saw his future wife walking down the street, and on February 6, 1971, he married the love of his life, the former Lorna D. Lewis.
Surviving him is his wife of 55 years, Lorna; children: Geraldine Sumrall, Sheila McKinstry, Lee M. McKinstry, Jr (Jenny), Adolphus McKinstry (Petrova Stegall); Lauralee Sprenger (Jason), and Jordyn Burel; grandchildren: George Bridges, Kori Shelton (Michael), Audric Bills, Jr., Ian McKinstry (Amanda), Alexander Kiser, Maksimus McKinstry, Milan McKinstry, Milo McKinstry, Tyree Tucker, Aphton Goehring (James), Madison McKinstry, Amya Dicker, Kingston McKinstry, Taylor McKinstry, Ayden McKinstry, Morgan Holland, Jaron Ginnever, Lauren Sprenger, Austin Sprenger (Camryn), Dailyn Burel, Dior Burel: bonus grandchildren Octavia McKinstry and Dominic and Tyress Brown; many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins; and siblings Luther C. McKinstry (Bishop Pat McKinstry), Robert D. McKinstry (Patricia), Willie Earl McKinstry, L.B. McKinstry (LaSonya), Tommy Lee Jones, Ivan McKinstry, Troy Lindsey (Lynette), Lyndora Dukes, and Linda Jones-Johnson; special aunt Julia May Stephens and special uncle James Brown; special friend James “Ponytail” Young. Finally, special brother/sister cousins: Chester Lee Terrell, May Rose Darby, Pearlie Thigpen, Karen Buxton, Sheila Lowery, Freida Wilson, and May Joyce Strickland.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, David Jones and Albert McKinstry.
Visitation will take place on Friday, June 5th from 2-4 and 6-8 at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 6 at The Church on 53, 1105 County Road 41, Fremont at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior.
