John "Johnny" W. Horner, 85, of Fremont, OH passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family. John was born on March 5, 1940 to Verlin J. and Rosina (Renfro) Horner in Inman, VA. John served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1955. He married LaVonne Miller on April 2, 1958 in Fremont, OH and she preceded him in death on July 25, 2019.
John was a Supervisor at Great Lakes Sugar for thirty-nine years and retiring in 1996. He was a member at the Clyde VFW, Fremont VFW, American Legion and Moose. John was very active in Little League Sports and men's softball. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and playing cards. John was always fixing and tinkering with things and enjoyed working with his hands. He loved spending time with people, especially his children and grandchildren. John always looked forward to spending time with his Virginia brothers and sisters.
John is survived by his daughters, Deana Horner, Fremont, OH, Renee Horner, Fremont, OH, Rochelle (Ken) Peters, Bowling Green, OH and Angela (Paul) Garn, Bettsville, OH; grandchildren, Jessica (Eric), Betsy, Sadie (Joel), Kristen (Aaron), Nicholas (Ashleigh), Missy (Jon), Rebekah (Jason), Chasity (Brandon), Lucas (Tammy), Jeremy (Amber); twenty-five great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren and siblings, Robin Horner, David "Davey" Horner, Ann Bowling, Brenda Himelight, Betty Gabriel.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, LaVonne Horner, son John Horner; grandson, Toby Garn; great-granddaughter, Aries Garn; siblings, Daniel Horner, James Horner, Allen Horner, Albert Horner, Doris Vincent, Shirley Orndorff.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, January 3, 2026 fom 9-11 a.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St, Fremont, OH 43420.
Services will follow visitation at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home
Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion and VFW.
Memorials can be made in his honor to Victory Church.
