Gerald Miller

Gerald “Jerry” J. Miller, 85, of Fremont, OH passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at ProMedica Memorial Hospital. He was born on July 17, 1941, in Fremont, OH and raised on the Miller Family Century Farm in Millersville Ohio, to Arthur and Mary (Corl) Miller. Jerry was a 1959 graduate of St. Joseph Central Catholic High School. He then went on to serve in the Ohio National Guard.

Jerry married Shirley Gabel on May 5, 1962 at St. Joseph Catholic Church and she preceded him in death on September 2, 2024. Together, they shared 62 years of marriage including over 30 years of running the family business of Miller’s Nursery where they specialized in pick your own Christmas trees.

Jerry worked as an inspector/packer for Ludlow Composites, retiring after 45 years of service. For many years, he was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Millersville; more recently, he was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fremont, Ohio. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus and the Cursillo Movement of the Diocese of Toledo. As a child, Jerry participated in 4-H. Jerry enjoyed gardening, taking power naps, and cheering on the Cleveland Indians.

Jerry is survived by his children, , Lynne (Richard) Baranowski, Perrysburg, OH, Richard “Rick” Miller, Dublin, OH, Lawrence “Larry” (Joyce) Miller, Tallmadge, Randal “Randy” (Kathie) Miller, Avon, OH and Holly (Greg) Schroeder, Irving, Texas; grandchildren, Jessica (Larry Fritz), Natalie, Sam, and Mia Miller; siblings, Steve Miller, Tiffin, OH, George (Carol) Miller, Kansas, OH, Teresa (Bob) D’Orazio, Grand Rapids, MI, Marti Ryan, Fremont, OH, Viola (Mark) Rumschlag, Tiffin, OH, Marion Miller, Fremont, OH, Ken (Melissa) Miller, Fremont, OH; sisters-in-law, Pat Miller, Helena, OH, Helen Miller, Tiffin, OH, Beverly Gabel, Bloomville, OH and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley Miller; siblings, Agnes (Joe) Zobin, August Miller, Phil Miller; infant brothers, Howard and Frederick Miller; sister-in-law, Marilyn Miller and brother-in-law, Michael Ryan.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026 from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm with a Vigil Service beginning at 3:30 pm at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St, Fremont, OH 43420.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, September 28, 2026 at 12:30 pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 865 OH-635, Helena, OH 43435.

A private burial will take place at Ludwig Cemetery at a later date.
