Jared S. Groot, 39, of Fremont, OH passed away on August 3, 2026 at Reserve Care Stein Hospice in Sandusky, OH leaving behind a lifetime of unforgettable memories and countless people who were fortunate enough to know and love him. He was born on June 26, 1987 the son of Melissa (Holmer) Distel. Jared was a 2006 graduate of Fremont Ross High School.
Jared was more than a brother, uncle, friend, he was everyone’s brother, uncle, friend. He had a way of making everyone feel like family, whether you had known him for years or had just met him. His larger-than-life personality, infectious laughter, and quick wit made him the heart of every gathering. He was the life of the party, always ready with a joke, a smile, or a story that would have everyone laughing.
One thing everyone knew about Jared was that he would always tell a joke, but he would never tell a lie. He wasn't only the light in the room, but also the loud speaker no one could ignore. He was brutally and unapologetically honest, and those who loved him appreciated his genuine heart and unwavering authenticity. Even in his final moments, he continued to make others laugh, a true reflection of the joy and light he carried throughout his life.
Jared had a restless spirit and a love for adventure. He was never one to stay in one place for long, always on the move, traveling, visiting friends, or looking for his next adventure. He treasured his friendships, adored his dog, Frederico, and embraced every opportunity to make memories with the people he loved.
He is survived by his sister, Erica Groot, and his brother, Jason Groot, along with many nieces and nephews who will forever cherish the laughter, love, and unforgettable moments he brought into their lives. He is also survived by his soul sister, Miranda Pasch.
Jared is now reunited in heaven with his beloved mother, Melissa “Lisa” Distel; grandparents, Francis and Mary Ann Homler and brother, Ryan Groot, Sr. While our hearts are broken by his absence, we find comfort in knowing his laughter, honesty, and generous spirit will live on in every story shared and every smile he inspired.
Though his time with us was far too short, Jared’s impact was immeasurable. He reminded us to laugh often, speak the truth, love deeply, and never take life for granted. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
Thank you to Firelands Medical Center and Stein Hospice for the amazing care that he received.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
Memorials can be made to Erica Groot.
