Jana F. Arend

Jana F. Arend, 79, of Fremont, OH passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at ProMedica Memorial Hospital. She was born on August 5, 1947 in Fremont, OH to Herman and Thelma (Saner) Szymanowski. Jana was a 1965 graduate of St. Joseph Central Catholic High School. She then went on to receive her Registered Nurse Degree from St. Vincent School of Nursing in 1968.

Jana worked as a registered nurse since 1968 at Memorial Hospital and retired in 1992 due to health issues. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Confraternity. Jana enjoyed living on the lake in Port Clinton for many years. She was an avid reader and she had a deep love for her cats and all of God’s creatures.

Jana is survived by her sister Sara Soper, Toledo, OH; sister-in-law, Kay Szymanowski, Fremont, OH; cousin, William Grizinski; nieces and nephews, Tim Soper, Tina Posavad, Amy Kory, Dennis Szymanowski, Denise Sloma, Douglas Szymanowski, Dale Szymanowski, Dana Szymanowski, Darrin Szymanowski, Dianne Bauer.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, LeRoy Szymanowski and infant brother, Joseph Szymanowski.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 550 Smith Rd. Fremont, OH 43420 with a luncheon to follow at the church.

Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date.

In Lieu of flowers memorials can be made in her honor to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or the Donor’s Choice.
