Our beloved brother, Harold D. Hurst, entered this world on October 15, 1948, and passed away from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on October 17, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was the firstborn son of the late Johanna (Shanahan) and Harold J. Hurst Jr.
During his childhood, Harold was active in the Boy Scouts, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. After graduating from Fremont Ross High School in 1968, he attended Bowling Green State University, graduating in 1973. He enjoyed a 23-year career with the Birchard Public Library. He was also a member of the Fremont Jaycees for many years, serving as the chair of several committees before being elected president.
Harold was always a kind soul. He would lend a sympathetic ear and do his best to assist anyone in need that he met in his life’s journey. He thoroughly enjoyed the simple things in life and found joy and satisfaction in everyday moments. He enjoyed cooking, his home, and his hobbies. A good historical story, a challenging puzzle, gardening in his backyard, and spending time with his beloved pets all brought him purpose and joy.
Harold is survived by his brother, James (Jackie) Hurst; his sister, Sandra (Larry) Sedlmeier; his nephews, Scott (Adi) Sedlmeier, Todd (Kandi) Sedlmeier, and Cory (Andrea) Sedlmeier; and his nieces, Jenny (Brijesh) Hurst-Gupta, Julie Hurst, and Jena (Justin) Wilkinson.
