Elizabeth Maddock Delacretaz, 94, of Fremont, OH passed away surrounded by her family on Friday, May 1, 2026 at Valley View Care Center. Betty was born during the Great Depression in Westport, Connecticut. Her father Curtis A Maddock went off to war after divorcing her mother. She lived with many families, which affected her. She wrote to her father often about her everyday life and missed him greatly. Westport was an idyllic town to grow up in and that is where she met the love of her life, Richard E. Delacretaz. She graduated from Staples High School in 1950 and became a secretary for the Moffat Insurance Agency until she married Dick in March 1953 and moved to Springfield, MA. She gave birth to her only child Nancy in September 1954.
In 1964 Dick got a promotion and moved the family to Cincinnati, OH. Betty worked as a secretary for a group of Drs in Downtown Cincinnati. She kept busy with bowling leagues, volunteering, and helping with the Girl Scouts. She enjoyed meeting new people at the local neighborhood swim club and was also in a wife’s club called porticos. Betty also enjoyed the Cincinnati Reds!! She enjoyed going to games and even watched them on TV.
Dick got transferred back to Springfield, MA Monsanto plant and they settled in Longmeadow, MA in 1977. Betty worked at the local department store, Steigers, until she retired. She loved to travel with her husband. They traveled to Europe and extensively throughout the USA. One of their favorite driving trips was to Chatham, MA on Cape Cod.
Betty was a talented artist. She enjoyed oil painting, crafts, and needlepointing. She got involved in gourmet cooking also when she returned to New England.
After her husband died in 2016 Betty moved to Fremont, OH to be near her daughter and family. She was a resident of Valley View Nursing Home for 9 years.
Betty, late in life, joined the Catholic Church in Fremont, OH. She and her husband, Richard, were very supportive of their daughter Nancy and her family’s faith journey.
She leaves behind her daughter Nancy (George IV) Dunlap, of Fremont, Oh, two grandchildren Katie (Eric) Kuznik of Solon, Oh and George V, (Lauren Sprenger) of Fremont, Oh, and two great grandchildren Oliver and Lucy Kuznik. Betty was blessed to still have both of her brothers Curt (Joan) Maddock of Helena, MT, and Bob (Priscilla) Maddock of Fairlee, VT. Betty also had many nieces and nephews, and she tried to make it to many weddings. Betty also had some amazing friends from Longmeadow, MA; Pat Skelton and Elizabeth (Leo) Vartanian.
She is predeceased in death by her father Curtis A. Maddock and her husband of 62 years Richard E. Delacretaz.
A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026 at 2:30 pm at St. Joseph Cemetery, Fremont, OH.
Visitation will follow on Friday, May 15, 2026 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St, Fremont, OH 43420.
