Duane L. Pump,79, was welcomed into the arms of his savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, June 5, 2026 at his home. He was born at Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton, OH on June 9, 1946, to Lyle and Dora (Cutcher) Pump. Duane was a 1964 graduate of Perkins High School in Sandusky and later received his associates degree at Ownes Community College in Industrial Electricity. He went on to work a short time for the Kelsey Hayes Foundry before joining the United States Marine Corp in 1966 and was honorably discharged in 1971. Duane served in the Vietnam conflict as a USMC Jet Mechanic in DaNang and was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Expeditionary Medal.
After being discharged in 1971, Duane went to work for the Ohio Bell Telephone Company, now AT&T until his retirement in 1995. During his career with the telephone company, Duane held serval positions. He began on the switching systems, maintenance for the telephone huts in our area, and installation and repair. On February 1, 1974, Duane married the love of his life, Maureen McClure. Together they have shared fifty-two years of love and laughter. In retirement, Duane took on the most important job of his life. He became the Papa childcare for his grandchildren, Emmersyn and Jaxon.
Duane is survived by his wife, Maureen Pump; son, Charles Pump both of Fremont, OH; former daughter-in-law, Amber Pump, Elmore, OH; grandchildren, Emmersyn Pump and Jaxon Pump, Fremont, OH and sister, Sherry Reiff, Sandusky, OH.
Duane is preceded in death by his father, Lyle Pump, stepfather, Cecil Hoskins and mother Dora Hoskins
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Grace Lutheran Church, 705 W. State St. Fremont, OH 43420.
A Memorial Service will begin at 11:00 am following the visitation at the church with Pastor Clayton Bailey officiating.
Memorials may be shared in honor of Duane with Heartland Hospice, St. Mark Lutheran Church, or Grace Lutheran Church.
