Donald "Don" L. Smith

Donald "Don" L. Smith, 94, of Fremont, OH, passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2025 at the Ohio Veteran's Home in Sandusky, OH. Don was born on July 11, 1931 to Laverne and Elva (Keiser) Smith in Fremont. He was a 1949 graduate of Fremont Ross High School.

Don married Donna Jean Sheely in 1951. He married Marsha Marie Huss in 1973 and she passed away on December 15, 1993. He then married Sandra Sharver in 1998.

Don served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1953 as a Radio Mechanic and was discharged at a Corporal Rank. He also served in the Ohio National Guard.

Don worked for Claus Cutlery for forty-seven years, starting as a sales assistant, moving up to the Supervisor of Production. He spent eight years as the plant manager before retiring in 1996.

Don enjoyed golfing and playing softball until the age 90. He was also a member of the state runner-up swim team at Ros High School.

Don is survived by his children, Steven (Suzi) Smith, Rimrock, AZ, Randall Smith, Fremont, Dawn (Tony) Rando, Clyde, OH, Angela (Johnny Jones) Smith, Maumee, OH; fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Dennis Smith; brothers, Robert Smith, Derell Smith, Rolland Smith and second wife, Marsha Marie Smith.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, December 20, 2025 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St. Fremont, OH 43420.

Services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery with military honors provided by the Fremont VFW and American Legion.

Memorials can be made in his honor to the Ohio Veteran Home.
