David Nelson Pope

David Nelson Pope, 88, of Fremont, OH passed away on Monday, July 27, 2026 at Bethesda Care Center in Fremont. Dave was born on February 17, 1938 to Fredrick F. and Lillian R. (Bartholomew) Pope in Columbus, OH. He attended Whitehall and Bexley Schools and later received his GED from Terra. Dave served in the United States Army Reserves from 1956 to 1964.

Dave married Carol (England) Luman on October 9, 1971 in Findlay, OH and she survives. Dave worked for Nickles Bakery for thirty years until he retired in 2004. In his career he also worked at Kroger’s for sixteen years. Dave was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and spending winters in Florida with his wife and family. Dave was an avid Ohio State fan. He loved spending time outside in the sun.

Dave is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Carol Pope; children, Robert Pope, Lakeland, FL; stepchildren, Mitch (Loraine) Luman, Sandusky, OH, Kim (Art) Tubbs, Lakland, FL, Lisa (Tom) Malburg, Swanton, OH; siblings, Sharon Davis, Buckeye Lake, OH, Michael Pope, Vista, CA; eleven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Richard and David Pope; infant daughter, Carolyn Pope; siblings, Barbara Johnson, Fredrick Pope, Jr, Sandra Wiles and Rebecca Heimerl.

Visitation will take place on Friday, July 31, 2026 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E State St., Fremont, OH.

Services will take place on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with an hour of visitation prior to the service.

Burial will follow at the Perry Center Cemetery, Wood County.
