Claudia J. Frater

Claudia J. Frater, 78, of Fremont, OH went to be with her Lord and Savior unexpectedly but peacefully on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Countryside Manor.  She was born on June 14, 1945 in Fremont, OH to Ralph and Clairabelle (Beazell) Frater. Claudia attended Gibsonburg High School and was a 1964 graduate of Fremont Ross High School.

Claudia worked for Stage Department Store where she was the manager in the men’s department.  She was most recognized from her time at Great Scot as a cashier/front-end manager for both the east and westside locations for forty years. Claudia was a hard and dedicated worker and was deeply rooted in her faith.  She enjoyed her seven years living in Phoenix, AZ where she loved spending time with friends and playing cards with them.   Claudia also enjoyed listening to country music, especially Elvis, working on puzzles, traveling, dancing, target shooting, boating, fishing, going to the movies, baking and spending time with family, friends and her pets. 

Claudia will be lovingly remembered by her children, Michelle (Gregory) Lindsay, Brian (Stacey) Mahr, Corey Garst, all of Fremont, OH; grandchildren, Brandon Mahr, Marisa Lindsay; great granddaughter, Briella Mahr; siblings, Connie Frater, of Texas, Carol Shoemaker, Chris (Les) Hill, all of Fremont, OH and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; son, James “Jamie” Garst and niece, Claudia Jean Fonseca. 

Claudia’s family would like to thank everyone at Countryside Manor for embracing her and loving her as family.

Visitation will take place on Friday from 4 to 6 pm at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St, Fremont, OH 43420.

Services will be held Friday, March 8, 2024, beginning at 6 pm at the funeral home.

A private burial will take place at Greenlawn Memory Gardens at a later date where she will be laid to rest between her beloved son, Jamie and niece, Claudia.

Memorials can be made in her honor to the Humane Society of Sandusky County or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
