Charlie E. Bowling, 70, of Fremont, OH passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at his home. He was born on September 26, 1955 in Aurora, IL to Percy Bowling Sr. and Mary (Hamilton) Bowling.
Charlie had a deep love for writing and authored many books throughout his life. His passion for cars led him to work as a mechanic, where he enjoyed repairing and maintaining vehicles. He also found joy in playing pool with friends, and took great pleasure in cooking and grilling, especially during gatherings. Charlie cherished taking long drives, which gave him a sense of freedom and relaxation. Known for his generosity, he was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Above all, Charlie treasured the moments spent with his family and friends, valuing these relationships more than anything else.
Charlie is survived by his daughter, Charmaine (Bernard) Smith; granddaughters, Taschika Edwards, Monique Smith; great granddaughters, Essence Edwards, Ameri Lanning; great great grandson, Lamaries Fisher Jr; siblings, Victoria (Dennis Richey Sr) Bowling, Cora Lee Darby, Percy Bowling Jr; nieces & nephews, Tenesha Jones, Clarissa Bowling, Cory Bowling, Dale Salon Jr, Jermani (Michaiah) Holmer, Venessa Darby, Tonia Brock, Willie Darby Jr, Gina Darby, Curtis Darby, Damaine Darby, Jason Darby, Danny Jennings Darby, Perssan (Righteous) Smith-Fleshman and Tiana Meade.
He is preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Elmeanor James, sister, Tabitha (Larry) Jones, brother-in-law, Willie Darby, nieces, Tawanna Bowling and Lynn Bethea.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026 from 11:00 am to Noon at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St, Fremont, OH 43420.
A Celebration of Life will immediately follow the visitation, beginning at noon at the funeral home with Pastor Dennis Richey Sr officiating.
Memorials can be made in Charlie’s honor to his daughter, Charmaine Smith.
