Burkhart “Burk” W. Tischler, 86, of Fremont, OH passed away on December 28, 2024 at Valley View Health Campus. He was born on October 24, 1938 in Fremont, OH the son of Burkhart “Bill” and Mary Margaret (Rich) Tischler. Burk was a 1956 graduate of St. Joseph High School and received his degree in Finance and Commerce from Tiffin University. He served in the US Navy from 1956-59 aboard the USS Princeton.
Burk married Claudia G. Abrahamson on November 16, 1963 at St. Jospeh Catholic Church and she passed away on October 17, 2007. He then married Karol “Kay” Thomsen Courtney in November of 2008 and she preceded him in death on January 10, 2020. He worked at Croghan Colonial Bank in various departments for many years until he retired.
Burk was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the SJCC Booster Club and served as past-treasurer. He was an honorary life member, Third Degree, Knights of Columbus and served as financial secretary for fifteen years. He also served on the Sandusky County Board of DD for twelve years and volunteered at the soup kitchen for many years. He was a member of the U.S.S. Princeton Veterans Inc and the United States Navy Memorial. He attended numerous shipmate reunions, which were held every other year in different United States locations.
Burk is survived by his sons, Kent (Mindy) Tischler, Cape Coral, FL and David (Beth) Tischler, Clyde, OH; brother, Dennis (Kathy) Tischler, Port Clinton and grandchildren, Tyler Tischler, Macy (Brandon) LaBrie, Ellie Tischler, Kayla and Aiden Tischler. Other survivors include members of Kay’s family.
He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Claudia Tischler; second wife, Kay Tischler; son, Eric Tischler; stillborn daughter, Annette Marie Tischler and sister, Patricia Weider.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, January 2, 2025 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E State St., Fremont, OH.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, January 3, 2025; 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 709 Croghan St., Fremont, OH.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Fremont, OH.
Memorials can be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, SJCC or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
