Beatrice A. Lorenz

Beatrice “Bea” A. Lorenz, 98, of Fremont, OH passed away on July 31, 2023 at ProMedica Memorial Hospital in Fremont, OH.  She was born on November 12, 1924 in Fremont, OH the daughter of John and Annarose (Swint) Cronin.  Bea was a 1942 graduate of St. Joseph High School.  She married Robert H. Lorenz at St. Ann’s Catholic Church on March 31, 1948 who she was proudly married to for seventy one years until he preceded her in death on November 19, 2019.

Bea was a secretary for the law firm of Hull and Hawk.  She also worked for the Sandusky County Agricultural Society starting the year “Home in Indiana” was filmed at the fairgrounds.  Bea also prepared income taxes for many years and was a census enumerator.

She was a lifelong member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church where she served on the Finance, Social, Liturgy and Funeral Lunch Committees at various times.

Bea was a member of the USO, a fifty year member of the Plant ‘n Bloom Garden Club and the Delta Theta Chapter of Sigma Alpha Sorority.  She volunteered as a Camp Fire leader and for the Heart Fund and Memorial Hospital.

She traveled with her husband Bob, who was instrumental in the design and operation of several steam powered excursion trains which toured the country including the Golden Spike Centennial Ltd. In 1969, the American Freedom Train in 1975-76, the Chessie Steam Special in 1978 and others.

Bea attended writing classes at Terra Community College for ten years.  She also enjoyed playing bridge at the Senior Center.  Most of all she loved her family and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Bea is survived by her children, Linda (Gerald) Gonya, Fremont, OH, Luann (Joe) Shawberry, Republic, OH and Laura (Richard) Eberly, Fremont, OH; grandchildren, Melissa (Jason) Voorhees, Aaron (Stephanie) Gonya, Leslie (Matthew) Sanctis, Angela Gonya, John T. Nause, Alyse (Cory) Snider; great grandchildren, Easton and Jensen Voorhees, Aleah, Annaliese, Ian, Michael and Jakob Gonya, Olivia, Zachary and Evan Sanctis, Evany and Maelynn Snider and one due in November; sisters, Patricia Kiser, Fremont, OH and Barbara Rutherford, Green Springs, OH.

She is preceded in death by her parents in an automobile accident in 1948; husband Robert Lorenz; siblings, John Cronin, Jean Haubert, Mary Pratt; sister-in-law, Mary Ann (Moyer) Cronin and brothers-in-law, Gene Kiser, Lawrence Haubert and Theodore Rutherford.

Visitation: Friday, August 4, 2023 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E State St., Fremont, OH.

Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, August 5, 2023: 10:00 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, 1021 W. State St., Fremont, OH.

Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery
