Anthony Lee Gardner

Anthony Lee Gardner, 62, of Fremont, OH, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at his home. He leaves behind a legacy of profound warmth, resilience, and an extraordinary ability to bring light into the lives of others.

He was born on December 16, 1963 in Fremont, OH to James and Ora Lee (White) Gardner. Anthony was a 1982 graduate of Fremont Ross High School. He married Maria Clarite on September 16, 1992 and she survives.

To know Anthony was to be seen and understood by him. He possessed a rare and beautiful gift for true human connection, effortlessly bridging the gaps between strangers and friends alike. In moments of hardship, when most would falter, he stood as a pillar of overwhelming positivity. He had an uncanny ability to find the silver lining in the heaviest of clouds, teaching those around him that grace and optimism are choices we make every day. His remarkable people skills were not just a trait, but a testament to his deep, genuine love for humanity.

He then went on to serve in the US Navy from 1990 to 1996 where he was awarded the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Expert Ribbon, Navy Achievement Medal, Navy Overseas Service Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Anthony worked for Cooper Tires in Bowling Green for many years. He was a security guard for the Sandusky Co. Detention Center for several years. He was a bus driver for the School of Hope. Anthony showed great love for his son by obtaining the appropriate training to be his primary caregiver. Anthony was an avid Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeye fan. He was known for being a jokester and loved making people laugh.

Anthony is survived by his wife, Maria Chona Gardner, Fremont, OH; children, James Anthony Clarite Gardner, Saint Paul, MN, Isaiah Alexander Clarite Gardner, Fremont, OH, Lily Marie (Eric Roder) Gardner, Columbus; grandson, Dietrich Roder; siblings, Elester Gardner, Bowling Green, KY, David (Daisy Dines) Gardner, Tiffin, OH, Janie (Sims Royster) Gardner, Fremont, OH, Trena (Greg) Smith, Columbus, OH, Clara Johnson, Springfield, IN, Keyatta (Rodrick) Williams, Natasha Johnson, both of Chicago, IL and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Willie James Gardner, Willie Lee Gardner and biological mother, Ollie Mae Gardner.

His spirit, wisdom, and the lessons he imparted will be forever carried forward by his devoted family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria, and his proud children: James, Isaiah, and Lily. The family takes immense comfort in knowing that his legacy of kindness and his undeniably bright outlook will live on in them.
