Alice R. Meek

Alice R. Meek, 88, of Fremont, OH passed away peacefully on July 11, 2023 at Stein Hospice in Sandusky, OH.  She was born on May 15, 1935 in Millersville, OH the daughter of George and Doris (Howey) Newberger.  She was a graduate of Jackson Burgoon High School.  Alice married Kenneth D. Meek on June 14, 1957 at Memorial United Methodist Church and he preceded her in death on October 29, 2010.

Alice was the owner operator of Americana Beauty Salon for over forty years until she retired.  She spent her summers at their cottage on the lake in Catawba where she loved landscaping and flower gardening.  Alice enjoyed traveling and spent many winters in Florida with her husband.  She also would attend NASCAR races with her husband for many years.  Alice volunteered at Bethesda Care Center for many years where she would decorate and play the organ for their weekly church service.  She was loved by her family very much and will be missed by all.

Alice is survived by her daughters, Lisa (Bob) Zimmerman, Fremont and Jill (Jim) Shaffer, Republic, OH; grandchildren, Alyssa (Jason) Smith and Tony (Dustie) Zimmerman; great grandchildren, Adeline, Atticus, Mavis and Maverick Smith, Sydney and Reese Zimmerman; niece and caregiver, Doris Karr.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Kenneth Meek; sisters, Faye, Ruby, Betty and Helen.

Private services will be held for the immediate family.

Memorials can be made in her honor to Stein Hospice or Catawba Island Township Volunteer Fire Department.
