Richard A. Hanny

Richard A. Hanny, 76, of Fremont, OH passed away on August 14, 2023 at Fireland Regional Medical Center in Sandusky, OH.  He was born on May 9, 1947 in Fremont, OH the son of Rudolph and Audrey (Ritzman) Hanny.  He was a 1965 graduate of Fremont Ross High School.  Rich serviced in the US Army from 1967 to 1969 during the Vietnam War where he was awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense Service, Armed Forces Expeditionary, M-14 Marksmanship, Bronze Star and Code of Conduct Medals.

Rich married Diane L. Gruver on November 7, 1969 at First Brethren Church in Fremont, OH and she preceded him in death on July 8, 2015.  He worked at Whirlpool Corporation for over thirty years until he retired from the transfer line.  Rich enjoyed gardening and woodworking.  He was an avid John Deere Collector and loved to watch baseball especially the Cubs and Indians.

Rich is survived by his children, Matthew Hanny, St. Louis, MO, Martha (Mark) Lewis, Columbus, OH, Jonathan (Stephanie) Hanny, Houston, TX; grandchildren, Lexi and Courtney Lewis, Benjamin, David, Joshua, Jesse and Erin Hanny; brother, Ronald Hanny, Myrtle Beach, SC and girlfriend, Marcia Buehler, Fremont, OH.

He is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Diane Hanny.

Visitation will take place

Wednesday, August 30, 2023

from 10 to 11:30 a.m. with a funeral ceremony to follow at 11:30 a.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E State St., Fremont, OH.

Burial will follow at St. Jacob’s Cemetery in Bloomville, OH.

Memorials can be made to the Liberty Center of Sandusky County.
