Minnie E. Blue, 96, of Fremont, OH passed away on February 12, 2016 at Elmwood Communities in Fremont. She was born on February 12, 1920 in rural Oak Harbor to George and Martha (Breu) Brown. She loved farm life and had many happy memories of her years on the farm. Minnie was a 1938 graduate of Oak Harbor High School and attended Keanes Commercial Art School in Toledo. She then moved to Pearl Harbor to work in the Navy Yard during WWII. Minnie had fond memories of Oahu, and her time there was a highlight in her life. While in Honolulu Minnie took hula lessons and enjoyed performing the hula for her family and friends after she returned home.
Minnie married Edward C. Blue on July 2, 1949 and he preceded her in death on March 15, 2002. She worked at Quikut for over fifteen years until she retired in 1978. She enjoyed writing poetry and many of her poems were published in Sunshine Magazine and the Toledo Blade. She was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed painting with water colors and oils. Minnie was creative, imaginative, and had a terrific sense of humor.
She adored her two daughters and delighted in her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was the best mother and grandma ever.
Minnie is survived by her daughters, Rose (Mike) Widman, Fremont and Martha (Dennis) Johns, Onsted, MI; grandchildren, Laura (Ryan) Eckel, Daniel (Misty) Johns, Michael (Andrea) Widman, Matthew (Ruby) Johns and Jennifer (Morgan) Little; great grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Landon Eckel, Mason Johns, Zoie, Jack and Averie Widman, Madelynn Johns, and Kayden, Tyler and Audrey Little.

I will always remember her whenever I see a bird. I met her on the Magee Marsh Boardwalk. While she was waiting for her daughter we had a nice conversation. Maybe you saw my daughter, she has very pretty white hair. I told her I was walking with a lady who had white hair and right after I said that, Martha walks up. I was talking to her mother! Whether coincidence or not Martha and I became great friends and have “birded” together since. Thank you Minnie.. If not for our lingering conversation I would never have found my best birding friend. I’m watching chickadees out my window and thinking of you.
