
Michael J. Barnes, 82, of Fremont, OH passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at ProMedica Toledo Hospital. He was born June 11, 1935 in Elyria, OH to William J. and Genevieve H. (Ranker) Barnes. He was a 1952 graduate of Elyria Catholic High School.
Mike served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1953 to 1956. He then served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 until 1959. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Air Force Longevity Service Award.
Mike married Connie L. Willis on November 28, 1987 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fremont and she survives. He worked at New Departure as a Machine Repairman and retried after many years of service. H was a member of VFW. Mike enjoyed fishing, hunting and flying as a Private Commercial Pilot.
Mike is survived by his wife of thirty years, Connie L. Barnes, Fremont, OH; children, Genevieve “Genny” Lawson, Celina, OH, John M. (Lisa) Barnes, Celina, OH, Suelynn Love, Augusta, GA and Mary Ray, Newbury, OH; step children, Elizabeth Laliberte of Virginia, Jonathan (Jessica) Kingsborough of Florida and Aaron (Emily) Kingsborough, Delaware, OH; siblings, Rosemary (Robert) Beiter, Huron, OH, thirteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, one great-great grandson; son-in-law, Wayne Evans of Texas and sister-in-law, Sandy Barnes, Berlin Heights, OH.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Yvonne Barnes and Theresa A. Evans, brothers, David and William Barnes.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorials: The Wounded Warriors or the Humane Society of Sandusky County.
