
Mary Elizabeth (Longberry) Strausbaugh Hoppe, 96, of Green Springs, OH passed away on October 4, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on January 14, 1918 in Darby Township, Pickaway County, OH to Frank and Lula (Tolbert) Longberry.
Mary married Seldon Strausbaugh in 1937 and he passed away in August of 1962. She then married George Hoppe in 1966 and preceded her in death on June 30, 1988. She worked at H.J. Heinz Co. for many years until she retired in 1983.
Mary volunteered at Memorial Hospital and the Community Thanksgiving Day Dinner at the Fremont V.F.W. for many years. She was also a charter member of the Fremont Eagles REACT club and was a life member of the V.F.W. Aux. She enjoyed taking trips, playing bingo and euchre, fishing on Lake Erie, watching baseball and bull riding on TV.
Mary is survived by her children, Russell (Susan) Strausbaugh, Clyde, Edna (Butch) Slane, Green Springs, Mary Ann Ottney, Fremont, Linda Strausbaugh, Cleveland, OH and Betty (Joe) Spitler, Clyde; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren and eleven great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Seldon Strausbaugh and George Hoppe; sisters, Mae Timmons and Flora “Peg” Smith; brothers, Thomas, Frank and Bud Longberry; grandson, Rick Strausbaugh; great grandchildren, Travis Ottney and Breanna Slane; son-in-law, Dennis Lee Ottney.
Mary donated her body to University of Toledo Medical College Anatomical Study Program. Her wishes were to have no services at this time.
