
Mary Catherine Bick, 92, of Fremont, OH passed away at her home surrounded by family on Thursday, August 11, 2016. She was born August 28, 1923 in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of Martin and Marie (Petro) Auble. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Education from Notre Dame College.
Mary served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1944 to 1946 and was stationed at Henderson Hall in Washington D.C. She then married Arthur Edward Bick where they farmed east of Norwalk. Mary was a sixth grade Teacher at Western Reserve School District in Collins, OH for many years.
Mary was a long time member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Norwalk. Her love of travel took her to several European countries, Africa, Canada, Ireland and Alaska to visit her brother. She was part of the Honor Flight with other WWII Veterans and went on the USS Constitution Turn Around Cruise out of Boston Harbor. Mary did extensive genealogy for both sides of her family that included four trips to Ireland. She enjoyed historical fiction, needle work and quilting, the quiet countryside and gardening. She was known as the “Lady with the hoe” to the truckers who passed by her home. Mary loved to tell stories about her life and could amuse those who would listen for hours.
Mary is survived by her children, A. Edward (Jennifer) Bick, Kansas City, MO, Patricia Marie (Billy R.) Smith, Fremont, OH; sister, Patricia Clemons of Oklahoma; grandchildren, Amy (Dan) Bick Quartell, Travis Arthur (Tracy) Smith, Leanne Renee (Bryan) Smith, Megan (John) Baxtrom Parkinson; great grandchildren, Zachary and Garrett Quartell, JayLee Wonderly, Daisy Eads, Aidan, Brooke and Kylan Parkinson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur Edward Bick; daughter, Cecelia Ann Bick; siblings, Joan Auble-Hedderman, Martin and Neil Auble.
Visitation: Sunday from 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm with a Rosary at 7:30 pm at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St., Fremont, OH.
Mass of Christian Burial: Monday, August 15, 2016, 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 550 Smith Rd, Fremont, with Fr. Chris Kardzis officiating.
Burial: St. Paul’s Cemetery in Norwalk, OH with Military Honors.
Memorials: Stein Hospice or Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
