Mary “Betty” Elizabeth Mead

Mead Betty002

On January 4, 2016 we said our final good-bye to our beautiful mother, fun and loving grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. The loving wife of the late George W. Mead; now rejoining him and their son David W. Mead in heaven.

Born Mary Elizabeth Horn in Fremont, OH, her favorite hobby, besides cleaning her house, was gardening. She loved flowers and spent hours tending her beautiful rose garden. As a founding and life-long member of Hayes Garden Club, she won many awards at the Sandusky County Fair for her outstanding plants and unusual table settings. She was very generous with her time devoting hours of volunteer work at St. Joseph school over the years. Her great love and dedication as a volunteer at Memorial Hospital Gift Shop lasted over forty years.

She was a life-long member at St. Joseph Catholic Church, a member of the Fremont Country Club and Women’s Hospital Auxiliary.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Dr. Scott (Martha) Mead, Fremont, OH, Debbie Mead, Bonita Springs, FL; her much loved grandchildren, Michael (Laura) Mead, Timothy (Kimberly) Mead, Kevin (Katie) Mead, Melissa (Steven) Plogsted, Jonathan (Jennifer) Brinker, Scott (Tatyana) Brinker, Allyson (Chris Mealey) Brinker; fifteen great grandchildren; brother, Paul (Lois) Horn; sister-in-law, Eileen Horn and her two best friend sisters, Lois Spino and Margaret Callendar both of Clyde, OH.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; son, David W. Mead; brothers, George, James and Bud Horn.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, January 6, 2015 at 10:30 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 709 Croghan St, Fremont, OH with Fr. Michael Zacharias officiating. Visitation will take place from 10 to 10:30 prior to mass at the church.

Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or Stein Hospice.

My heartfelt sympathy to the Mead family. Betty and George were good friends of my parents Jerry and Agatha Weller; both socializing and playing cards with them on many occasions. I was so lucky to meet such a terrific couple. May God Bless you all.
