Manuel Garcia (aka, The Professor), 81, passed away at Columbus Colony Nursing Home in Westerville, OH on Saturday, November 4, 2017. He was born on March 14, 1936 in Texas, to Amado & Esperanza Garcia. He is a graduate of Bowling Green State University, The Ohio State University, and was an OSU Fellow in Romance Languages. He spoke three languages: English, Spanish, & French. He also served in the Army National Guard. He lived in Texas, Detroit, MI, Columbus, OH & Fremont, OH and was a High School Teacher & Assistant College Professor. Manuel was a faithful & faith-filled member of the Roman Catholic Church. He will be especially remembered for chasing away hiccups & gas bubbles.
He is survived by his son, Matthew (Maria) Garcia; daughter, Michelle (Tim) Garcia-Juchter; grandchildren, Samuel, Gabriel, Olivia, & Nicholas Garcia; siblings Joseph Garcia, Jake Amado Jr. (Elaine) Garcia, Angie (Ray) Ramirez, Delores (Alfred) Tolento; and many nieces, nephews, & friends.
Manuel was preceded in death by his parents, Amado & Esperanza Garcia; siblings, Peter Garcia, Augustine “Willy” Garcia, Theresa Clinger, Micaela Garcia, Susie Reyna, & Marcella Hernandez.
Thanks to the staff at Columbus Colony Nursing Home, Mt. Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital, & Heartland Hospice for their help and support, especially in Manuel’s final days.
Visitation: Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:30, at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St. Fremont, OH 43420.
Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, November 9, 2017, 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 855 State Route 635, Helena OH 43435.
Burial: St. Mary’s Cemetery, Millersville, OH
