
Lester L. Hill, 98, of Fremont, OH passed away with his family by his side on Friday, July 07, 2017 at Valley View Health Campus. He was born on May 29, 1919 in Coal City, IN, the son of Leslie L. and Nell (Mabrey) Hill. He was a 1937 graduate of Fremont Ross High School.
Lester married Jennie Sipsma on February 24, 1945 in Tiffin, OH and she survives. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served from February 27, 1945 to October 23, 1946 and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon; WWII Victory Medal; Good Conduct Medal and Army of Occupation Medal-Japan.
Lester worked for the Gottron Brothers and then at Herbrand for fifteen years until they closed. He also worked at People’s Elevator and Crown Rubber. Lester then worked at Whirlpool Corporation for twenty years until he retired in 1984. Lester was also a lifelong farmer. He was a longtime member of First United Church of Christ and loved cutting wood, farming and going to the fair. Lester loved to travel, having visited Hawaii and the Netherlands. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Lester is survived by his wife of seventy-two years, Jennie Hill, Fremont, OH; children, Michael (Viki) Hill, Fremont, OH, Edwin (Patricia) Hill, Lindsey, OH and Thomas (Marsha) Hill, Oak Harbor, OH; son-in-law, Lynn Kaiser, Fremont, OH; eight grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren and one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Nancy Kaiser and brother, Harold Hill.
Visitation: Tuesday from 6 – 8 pm at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St, Fremont, OH.
Service: Wednesday, July 12, 2017, 11:00 am at First United Church of Christ, 1500 Tiffin Rd, Fremont, with one hour of visitation at church prior to the service. Pastor Nancy Smith will officiate.
Burial: Four Mile House Cemetery
