Leon A. Fisher

Leon A. Fisher, 96, of Fremont, OH passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at Countryside Manor. He was born on March 15, 1925 in Fremont, the son of Urban Albert and Gertrude (Wasserman) Fisher. Leon served in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman First Class from December 27, 1943 to June 3, 1946 and was awarded the American Area Ribbon and WWII Victory Ribbon. He married Phyllis M. Byers on August 18, 1951 at St. Ann Catholic Church and she survives. Leon was a carpenter by trade and worked at Ernie Haynes Construction for forty years. He retired in 1987.

Leon was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed reading the daily newspaper and traveling.

Leon is survived by his loving wife of seventy years, Phyllis M. Fisher, Fremont, OH; children, Tina M. Boucher, Fremont, OH, Dennis L. Fisher, Sebring, FL, Gloria J. (Daniel) Sprague, Fairfield Township, OH; siblings, Paul Fisher, Tiffin, OH and Joan Foos, Fremont, OH; grandchildren, Ryan (Josie) Boucher, Jennifer Fisher, Mike (Jessika) Fisher, Kristin (Dan) Perica, Lindsay (Andrew) Robinson and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Daniel Fisher; sisters, Marie Shammo, Alice Fisher, Linda Etzel; brothers, Howard, Lawrence, George, Norman and Roman Fisher.

Visitation: Friday, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St, Fremont, OH 43420.

Catholic Services: Saturday, September 18, 2021, 11:00 a.m. with an hour of visitation prior to the service at the funeral home with Sister Regina Fisher officiating.

Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the VFW and American Legion.

Memorials can be made in his honor to The Parkinson’s Foundation or to the American Legion.
