Kirby L. Ehemann

Ehenmann Kirby RESIZED

Kirby L. Ehemann, Jr., 84, formerly of Fremont, OH passed away on April 16, 2021 at NHC Health Care in Cookeville, TN.  He was born on August 8, 1936 in Jackson Center, OH the son of Kirby and Alice (Fogt) Ehemann.  Kirby graduated from Jackson Center High School in 1955.  He then received his bachelor’s degree in Education (History) from Ohio Northern and his master’s degree in History form Bowling Green State University.

Kirby served in the US Army from June 6, 1960 to June 5, 1962.  He married Treva J. Hamilton on October 2, 1965 and she preceded him in death on March 17, 2014.  He taught at Riley Township School (where he met Treva, a fellow teacher) and at Fremont Junior High School where he taught 8th Grade American History for twenty-eight years until he retired in 1989.  During his time at Fremont Junior High, he coached Track and was a timekeeper at many student basketball games.

Kirby resided in Ballville Township and was a member of Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church for over 40 years.  At church he actively participated in the Methodist Men’s Group and as an usher.  He was proud of his family’s farming heritage dating back for over 100 years in Jackson Center, OH.  He enjoyed reading, gardening, feeding the birds, camping, exploring the outdoors and sharing all of his knowledge with others.

Kirby is survived by his children, Kyle (Sayuri) Ehemann, Thibodaux, LA, Trenda Ehemann, Fremont and Trilby (Jim) Leach, Cookeville, TN, grandchildren, Madoka Miyagi and Jammie Knight and great-grandchildren, Natalie Miyagi and Luke Knight.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Treva Ehemann and his brother, Edwin Ehemann, Jackson Center, OH.

Visitation:  Friday April 23rd from 11:00am – 12:00pm at Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church, 1441 Fangboner Rd., Fremont, OH with the service to follow at 12:00pm.

The use of face masks is required while indoors.  If you would prefer, you may express your condolences below or call the funeral home at 419-332-6409 to request that your name be signed in the guest book.

Burial: McGormley Cemetery with military honor’s provided by the Fremont VFW and American Legion.

In lieu of flowers memorial can be made to Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church.

    I consider myself fortunate to have known Kirby during our years together at Fremont Junior High. He was genuinely interested in his students and a fine man. Susan and I always looked forward to seeing Treva and Kirby at retired teachers.
