I am so sorry for your loss. Kim worked with my friend Karl in the boiler room. Kim would often bring coffee beans that he roasted to perfection for me to try and give my opinion. He loved the great outdoors and riding his Indian and often talked of both, even coming to our home recently to get some trees from our woods. May God grant you peace and comfort in your loss.

    Family and friends,

I met Kim the first day of school, our sophomore year, which was my first day at Fremont Ross. It was First Period, Latin II class. Kim sat behind me and made fun of me almost the entire class. After class, he went out of his way to tell me all about Mabel and welcome me as a friend and classmate. I will never forget that day!

I was very fortunate to have Kim report to me his last year at Whirlpool, where we spent 40+ years together. During that time, we enjoyed many conversations about life, the good old school days, work and what we really enjoyed doing in our free time. He was missed after his retirement, not only taking with him years of knowledge and pride, but himself personally, a valued coworker.

Now, he has moved on to the next stage of life and will be missed even more. Praying he will be blessed for his good deeds while among us with happiness and joy. A little riding, woodworking and sailing wouldn’t be too bad either.

May you be comforted by your memories of Kim, his dry humor & wit, his passion and pride to do his best and Kim just being Kim! That is how I will remember him!

My sympathies to the family and friends of Kim. As recently as this past September, I had the pleasure of kayaking with Kim during the Rev 3 Triathalon where he volunteered as a safety boater for the swimmers. He will be missed.

Kim was a dear man with a heart that far surpassed his considerable stature. I am very fortunate to have crossed paths with him, however briefly. He has left his mark in my life and for that, I am truly grateful. I will miss the beard photos that would magically appear without any sub-text…Kim’s dry wit was always at work. Ride forever, my sweet friend.

I met Kim Edward Haubert in 2015 at Whirlpool, in the boilerhouse. He instructed me on how to safely fire the boilers and properly start and stop the air compressors and emergency generators. Kim showed me many nuances and hidden tricks to get equipment working again and keep the machines running smoothly. He introduced me to whoever came through the boiler house and always included me in on fun events.
Kim introduced me to kayaking last summer. He took me out with Judy Daiello and Mike in Gibsonburg’s Silverrock Park quarry. Kim strongly advised me to take a kayaking and safety course taught by the Toledo River Gang, at the Fort Meigs YMCA in Perrysburg, Ohio. This has been one of the best instructional courses I have ever taken. I met many very conscientious and welcoming kayaking instructors there. Kim told me many times “If you want to impress ladies, learn to roll in a kayak.” I did successfully learn to roll (most of the time), and lots more safety techniques. Kim also warned me to not attempt kayaking in Lake Erie by myself, and not to go with inexperienced people yet. Since then, I have been able to kayak in many places, with many great people, and have had wonderful experiences.
Kim had also built wooden kayaks, many chairs, benches and tables.
Last year when my Dad visited and we crushed and pressed apples and pears for cider, we invited Kim over to see our operations and taste some cider. Kim rode his big Indian motorcycle over to my place and I introduced him to my Dad. They got along well, and later Kim invited us over to show my Dad his woodshop and a big stump with burls. My Dad still remembers him, his woodshop, the stacks of thick lumber, and the big stump. (My Dad used to cut down big trees and liked lumber.) Kim has since built a solar kiln for drying his lumber.
Within the last couple months, Kim led us on three Sandusky River trips, along with Judy’s Full Moon Paddle, and invited me along with his friend Kim McG. and her family in the big quarry. That was how I now know more good people.
I was looking forward to kayaking in Lake Erie and up Greensprings river with Kim. Less that two weeks ago at his house, we researched tickets to go to a concert in Toledo. I went up to Toledo and bought the tickets. While I was still up there at the Game Room, Kim called and said he could use a ride home from the Indian motorcycle garage in Maumee. I gave him a ride home and the two tickets for him and his friend Kim M. The next day, we went back up to get his bike and then we went to Casa de Carlos for lunch. Kim bought me lunch and we talked about other local events that could be done after he got back from his hoped-for motorcycle trip to the Carolinas. He had concerns about the rain and hotels but looked forward to a scenic ride. We briefly talked about bicycles, scooters, and motorcycles. Kim warned me that you have to be on the lookout for other drivers, and what they might do, that you have no control over.
Kim H. and Kim McG. showed me that there can still be more happiness found later in life, even if paths had departed earlier; that sometimes good, happy people can find each other again.

I remember walking out of Whirlpool at the end of my shift always passing this tall man working on the Atlas machine. He had a wave and a smile even though he didn’t know me. Years passed and I once again got to see him this time in the boiler room. Kim was a very kind soul and I am very honored to have met him. My prayers and sympathy to his family and friends.
