Kenneth L. Weickert

Weickert Ken resized

Kenneth L. Weickert, 83, passed away peacefully in the early morning on Saturday, January 16, 2021. He was born on September 22, 1937, the son of Oliver C. and Florence I. (Bender) Weickert. He was raised on the family farm and lived his entire life in Fremont, graduating from Fremont Ross High School in 1955.  On April 26, 1958, he married Judith Tight at St. Ann Catholic Church, and she survives.  Ken began his career as an insurance agent in 1968. He started Weickert Insurance Agency in 1979 and had much success through his work ethic and support of his many loyal clients until retiring in 2003. Even in retirement, he frequently went to “the office” to see his sons and lend a hand. He also had the privilege to serve on the Agents Advisory Board of Northwestern National Insurance Co.

Ken was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and served on the board of St. Joseph Elementary School. He also served for many years on the Sandusky County Fair Board, and in retirement he delivered mobile meals to shut-ins for Memorial Hospital and WSOS until he was no longer able.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fremont Outing Club, SJCC Booster Club and The Elks. For many years, he enjoyed attending and participating in the Sandusky County Fair. He also enjoyed coaching his son’s baseball teams, playing golf and taking friends out fishing aboard “Premium Pleasure” as boating was a favorite summertime activity. He really loved to play Euchre, Bridge and any card games, especially with the guys in his “DeMars” card playing group. But most important to Ken was his family, especially his sons and grandchildren, never missing a sporting event where one of them were involved.

He is survived by Judy and their sons, Brent Weickert, Kent (Lori Rister) Weickert both of Fremont, Michael (Karly Cross) Weickert of Port Clinton and Thomas (Carol) Weickert of Findlay; grandchildren: Jenna (Lucas) Olivieri, Jarrod, Derek, Kacy, Lindsay, Bennett, Josie, Grant, Cole and Dane Weickert; great- grandchildren: Easton Weickert and Maya Olivieri; brother, Fred (Vicki) Weickert and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Jeffrey John Weickert and infant grand- daughter, Devin Weickert.

The family would like to thank the entire staff of Elmwood Skilled Nursing of Fremont for their compassionate care.

Visitation: Thursday, January 21, 2021 from 4-8pm at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St., Fremont, OH. Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, January 22, 2021; 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 709 Croghan St., Fremont, OH with Fr. Michael Roemmele presiding and Fr. David M. Ross concelebrating.  Burial following at St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date.

    Dear Judy and Brent,
Mark and I extend our sympathy to you and your family.
I was blessed to bring Jesus in Holy Communion to him at Elmwood before Covid 19 halted that.

We will be praying for him, you and all your family.

    Dear Weickert family,
I am SO VERY SORRY for your loss. When I watched the memorial video and saw the pictures from Bush St., it took me back to those wonderful days when you were my neighbors. When I think back to Mr. Weickert, I can see him in my minds-eye with a big smile on his face. He was always so good with us four little neighbor girls. He was never cross with us, only ever kind. My heart breaks at the thought that he is no longer here on Earth but I know he is finally at peace. May God bless you all with comfort, peace and your beautiful memories of him! Sending lots of love and prayers to you all.

I knew Ken from working with him during his meals on wheels delivery days, when he delivered meals to seniors. He was a very nice man and always friendly. He enjoyed coming to the office early to deliver meals so he could visit. He will be missed by many. May God bless his family in this time of loss.
