Joan Marie Hemminger-Gillmor, age 90, of Green Springs, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Sep. 19, 2018 at St. Francis Home in Tiffin, Ohio. Joan was born on Feb. 10, 1928 in Tiffin to Allen C. and Esther Hart. She graduated from Green Springs High School in 1946 and was honored as the class salutatorian.

Joan married Lewis Hemminger in 1947 and raised two beloved sons, Michael and Paul. She was employed with the United States Postal Service for many years, retiring as postmaster at the Old Fort post office. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially her pool and garden, hosting family gatherings, cheering for the Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys, and playing bridge. After Lewis’ passing in 1980, she remarried in 1992 to Ernest “Bill” Gillmor. In retirement, they enjoyed road trips to Arizona and a shared love of animals, including numerous neighborhood stray cats.

Joan is survived by her son, Paul Hemminger of Green Springs; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Hemminger, spouse to her late son, Michael Hemminger, of Norwalk, Ohio; grandchildren Mellisse (Philip) Morgan, Samantha (Jason) Tuttle, Patrick (Michelle) Weider, Laurie Weider, and Justin (Erin) Hemminger; six great-grandchildren: Philip, Brandon, Elise, Alyna, Aidan and Beth; brother-in-law, Lyman Hemminger; sisters-in-law, Laura Hasselbach and Doris Hart; and honorary daughter, Susan (Leonard) Michaels.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Esther; her first husband and father of her children, Lewis; her second husband, Bill; her son, Michael; and her brothers Franklin, Robert, Thomas and Eugene Hart.

A service to honor Joan is scheduled for Tuesday, Sep. 25, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Green Springs Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Humane Society of Sandusky County: www.hs-sc.org.

Grandma Joan was an amazing woman, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will truly be missed! She had her ups and downs but always remained strong and had many words of wisdom. She was kind fun and just great inside and out. But always spoke her opinion and her mind. Will never forget her and all the great memories we had together all the family gatherings and pool parties. Never forget when I was a teenager maybe bout 13 or so and she broke her foot and I stayed with her for the whole summer to help her out and take care of her. Loved the time and talks we had together. She will truly be missed but never forgotten! She is now with all her loved ones in heaven. I love ❤️ You Grandma Joan.
