
Irene L. Fry, 89, of Fremont, OH passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at ProMedica Memorial Hospital. She was born May 11, 1932 in Latcha, OH the daughter of Carl and Nora (Schwartzwalder) Geldin. She was a 1950 graduate of Fremont High School. Irene worked at Eaton Controls for forty-one years until they closed in 1991.
Irene married Duane “Pete” E. Fry and he preceded her in death on August 30, 2013. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the Republican Central Committee. Irene received the Woman of the Year award from the Ohio Republican Party in 2013 and was a poll worker for many years. She collected bells and enjoyed going on car rides and the Easter Seals Day Care Program. Irene’s true love was spending time with her family and she loved her animals.
Irene is survived by her daughter, Connie (Michael) Smith; grandchildren, Justin C. Smith, Jacob E. (Amber) Smith and Joshua M. (Ally) Smith; great grandchildren, Jeremiah and Aspen; brother-in-law, Kenneth Smith all of Fremont, OH and many nieces and nephews..
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Duane “Pete” Fry; siblings, Arthur C. Geldin, Carolyn B. Smith, Wilma D. Walker and Leonard “Ben” Geldin and special nephews, Steven and Alan Walker.
Visitation: Friday from 4 – 8 pm at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St, Fremont, OH
Services: Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 11:00 am with one hour of visitation prior to the service at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 212 N. Clover St, Fremont, OH; Pastor Matt Wheeler officiating.
Burial: Oakwood Cemetery
Memorials can be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church or Easter Seals.
