Harriet J. Murray

Murray Harriet

Harriet J. Murray, 91 of Fremont died at Elmwood Skilled Care and Assisted Living on January 6, 2021.  Harriet was born on Feb. 19, 1929 in Tiffin, Ohio to Donald and Marjorie (DeRan) Biddle. Harriet graduated from McKinley High School in Washington DC and Hood College, Frederick, MD in 1949 with a degree in Home Economics. Harriet loved spending her summers in Ohio on her grandparent’s farm.  She married Paul E. Murray on June 3, 1951 in the Old Fort EUB Church.

Harriet loved the country and being a farmer’s wife. She enjoyed tending her flower beds, especially iris, and did a great amount of canning and freezing from her garden produce.  Harriet was an excellent cook and her family enjoyed many meals that she prepared with love.  Harriet’s hobbies included doing jigsaw puzzles and visiting with family and friends.  She always had time to listen and was interested in other people.  She worked at Sandusky County Children’s Services for four years as a caseworker. Harriet was a member of the Old Fort United Methodist Church where she served as a youth choir director, Sunday School teacher, member of the Faithful Followers class and sang in the choir for many years.  In her younger years, Harriet was a soloist at numerous weddings and she missed using her soprano voice after her hearing impairment became too severe. Harriet belonged to the New Idea Farm Women’s Club and a pinochle club.  Harriet was dedicated to her family and spending time with them brought her the greatest joy.

Harriet attended her children and grandchildren’s activities throughout the years. Harriet is survived by her children Michael Murray of Fremont, Mark (Cheryl) Murray of Fremont and Molly (Steve) Bechtel of Huron and five grandchildren, Ryan (Jenny) Murray of Pandora, Andrea (Dave) Beasley of Cincinnati, Ashley (JR) Ramsey, Sarah (Sam) Lofton of Columbus and Kevin Bechtel (fiancé Megan Waldorff) of Charlotte, NC.  Harriet is also survived by five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant brother Donald James, special aunt and uncle, David and Blanche Biddle and her husband Paul in 2008.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2021 from 9 to 11 am at Old Fort Church, 8245 Main St., Old Fort, OH.  Services will follow at 11:00 am at the church.

The use of face masks is required while indoors at all services. Social distancing will be observed throughout all services.

Burial will be at the Pleasant Union Cemetery in Old Fort.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Old Fort Church, PO Box 20, Old Fort, OH 44861.

We got to love dear Harriet these last few years, and my Mom, Valerie Skaanning, became a dear friend. That will always been a wonderful memory. We thank the Lord for precious Harriet’s life. We grieve with the family but rejoice that she is with her Savior.
